UAEMer and Peter Hotez Publish PLoS Editorial

On February 23, UAEMers Sandeep Kishore, Gloria Tavera in conjunction with Peter Hotez, published an op-ed in the online journal PLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases on the importance of universities in advancing research on diseases that often have inadequate or no treatment at all.  The editorial is available from the open source journal here: http://www.plosntds.org/article/info%3Adoi%2F10.1371%2Fjournal.pntd.0000635

The authors offer three concrete recommendations for universities to take in order to enhance their impact in battling neglected diseases: development of new funds for NTD research, eliminating intellectual property barriers surrounding NTDs, and new metrics for faculty appointments that value ND research.

UAEM fights to ensure not only access to medicines but also for increased research at our universities to aid in the fight against neglected diseases.  We hope universities will work to deepen their commitment.
