Blocks

Blocks are simply chunks of content that can be moved around on a page. They can display menus, banners, views, custom code snippets, calendars etc.  The front page is made up almost entirely of blocks arranged in a grid. On regular contents the blocks you might see include the menus (all our menus are displayed inside blocks), book navigation and site administration.

Block Areas

There are several areas that blocks can dragged to. These areas can be divided into two basic types: front page areas and regular content areas.

At the time of writing this document here is what the block structure looked like. Note that this can change rapidly so please only use this as an examsple

Note: Some blocks are filtered to only display on specific URLS or subsets of specific URLS

How to add banners to a site
Adding banners to the site is relatively simple. Just Create a new block and paste the HTML of the banner into the code area. You can disable the block title by using <none> in the title field.

Unfortunately there's no way to attach images to a block but you can upload images in the Create Content section and from there you should be able to get a URL to that image that you can use in your banner HTML
